Julie's old cut diamond ring restoration

Julie inherited a beautiful diamond ring with one catch… A missing diamond.

We could tell from looking at the proportions of these stones that they were ‘old cut diamonds’ which means that they are cut slightly differently to the more modern ‘brilliant cut diamonds’. This makes them a little harder to source in the perfect size, but never impossible!

We work with some wonderful gemstone suppliers, who can send us old cut diamonds.

After seeing Julie, we took in her ring so that we could communicate with our gemstone expert and they could then provide a diamond match. This ensures that the best possible match is found and you are unable to see the difference between the new and the original diamonds. This stone is then given to one of our goldsmiths along with the ring, so that they can get started. With their handy work and the seamlessly matched diamond, you won’t even be able to tell where the repair has been done!

Julie was updated with the costs of the diamond along the way and also told how long this would all take before she decided to go ahead with the repair.

To make make Julie’s ring sparkle as much as possible, we gave it to our new goldsmith Max to polish!

Max is a Ukrainian refugee and him and his family are being hosted in basingstoke. Being a very talented goldsmith, Max fitted into the Petra Team very quickly and we are very lucky to have him!
