Abby's Memorial Experience
Abby was looking to have a unique piece of jewellery made to wear everyday that included her Mum’s ashes.
She had been gifted a Petra Jewellery gift card for her 40th birthday so she could come in and design her own special piece with her Mum, but sadly never got around to coming to see us before she passed.
Abby and her Dad came in to see designer, Abi to discuss what kind of piece of jewellery Abby wanted.
Together they looked at a couple of our sample pieces and Abby liked the idea of including a resin inlay into a practical style ring that she could wear daily. Wanting something a little more unique Abby chose a bubble style band in platinum with with two hearts that would be inlayed with a resin containing ashes, each heart representing Abby and her Mum.
Once the design had been approved the ring was cast in platinum at our CAD workshop.
The ring was then given a clean over and polish, ready for Abby and her Dad to place the ashes into the heart inlays with our goldsmith Behzad.
We had to wait 24 hours for the resin inlay to cure and set until the ring was completed. When the resin had completely set we were left with a beautiful blue colour.
“Mum and Dad for my 40th gifted me a voucher for Petra Jewellery to have a piece of jewellery made that I planned to go and design with Mum. Unfortunately Mum wasn’t well enough and we never got round to doing it before she passed. Instead I decided to have a ring made with her ashes so l could have a piece of Mum with me all the time. Abi from Petras was so lovely and helpful and certainly very patient with Dad and I when we went with very little idea what we wanted. She helped us design and create the ring to exactly how I wanted it. On the day when it came to adding her ashes I couldn’t bring myself to do it myself but watched as they mixed them in a turquoise blue (her favourite colour) to set in two little hearts, one heart for Mum and one heart for me.”
