Designing an Eternity ring

Do you know what an eternity ring represents..?

We often get asked what an eternity ring is when we mention them wedding and engagement ring consultations.

Eternity rings were traditionally gifted on the first wedding anniversary or the birth of a child, whichever came first.

Now, they can be gifted to mark any important milestone in a couple’s life.

If you like the idea of having an eternity ring made at any point, it’s good to have a think about this whilst designing any other important pieces of jewellery such as an engagement or wedding ring as the design of these will influence the other, especially if you’ll wear them together.

For example, you may need to have a shaped wedding and eternity band to sit next to a low set or unusual engagement ring.

We also advise wearing the same metals together, so if your engagement ring is platinum, your wedding and eternity would ideally also be platinum.

However, when it comes to the design of an eternity ring…everyone is different. We have made rings that look part of a matching set and blend in really nicely but we have also made eternity rings for people who want something completely different, there is no right or wrong!

Don’t feel like you have to go with the traditional diamond set eternity band either…we can set your birthstones or give you options for gemstones if there is a particular colour you would like to incorporate.

However, if diamonds are what you want…

Then we can guide you on styles, qualities and designs. There are also many different ways to set the stones.

Flush, rubover and channel set are all very contemporary, whereas grain, pave and claw set have more of a vintage look and feel to them.

If you’re still undecided or if you’re feeling overwhelmed by choice, you can reach out to us with any questions you have, or book a “30 minute chat” to discuss with one of our designers. Or, if you think you’re ready to book a design appointment here are a few things to think about first:

  1. What is your budget? We can work to any budget and we want you to have a piece you love, but we may suggest some alternatives that suit better, but don’t worry, we never compromise on quality.

  2. Will you be wearing this ring everyday? This may effect what stones we suggest or even how they are set.

  3. Will you be wearing this ring with any others? Ideally, we would want to match the metals if you’re going to be wearing this ring against any others and this may also impact the design and settings.

  4. Is there anything special such, as a birthstone, that you would like recognised in the ring? We can get a selection of stones to pick from and we can also have something special engraved too!

We’re still here to help! We can talk you through designs, give you some samples to try on and offer advice on everything…if you would like to book in to see one of our designers, you can book your Design Experience below:
