More ABOUT RUBY…

Rubies symbolise power and protection. When worn as a talisman, ruby was believed to help protect warriors in battle. The quality of a ruby is determined by its colour, cut and clarity which along with carat weight affect its value.

We aim to provide you with the brightest and most valuable shade of red called blood red or pigeon blood, but there is a wide of shades from pink through to dark red and if they have ‘life’ and sparkle they are still stunning stones.

YOUR CARE GUIDE

Rubies are really hard wearing with no ‘cleavage’ so are suitable for any type of jewellery. They, like any gem stone, can still break so please remove them for high impact activities.

It’s worth being aware that nowadays many rubies have been treated and fractures are often filled which makes them sensitive to heat and chemicals, even lemon juice.

We generally hold a small selection of coloured gem stones in stock, but often arrange for our gemstone specialists to provide a more for you to look at. We will discuss any particular shapes, cuts, sizes, colours and budgets that you are after so we show you stones that are going to be right for you. Sometimes this is a staged process so don’t worry if you’re not sure at the moment.
