Most jewellery has some sentimental value but your wedding rings will probably become the most important piece of jewellery you wear.
Because of the high expectations of your wedding bands; you want to be able to wear and love them forever, we need to get them right!
There is more to consider than most people think...
...Hopefully by scrolling through our wedding ring examples to the right you will be well on your way to making an educated choice.

Lady's wedding rings traditionally are worn with an engagement ring.
Our aim is to design a wedding band that complements your engagement ring which tends to imply that it is made from the same metal and has a matching profile.
There are plenty of other details to consider that have an effect on the finished look including the ring's width, height and setting style of any stones.

Generally gents wear a wedding ring on it's own so it doesn't have to 'match' anything; it can be whatever metal you want it to be! It is therefore important to have a good understanding of what you can get for your money as different metals have different properties and will wear differently over time.
The rings shown all have a contemporary 'low D' profile but vary in width, wider rings will cost more and there might be a certain width that looks best on your finger.

Metal choice is extremely important! Even if you know you want or need an 18ct white gold ring that doesn't mean any old 18ct will do. You can get top quality 18ct and rubbish 18ct and you will soon see the difference.
Our 18ct white gold for example has more palladium in the mix and therefore it is much white than the straw-yellow white gold in more mass-produced jewellery. At Petra's we make wedding rings in 9ct, 14ct & 18ct yellow and white gold alloys , palladium, platinum and titanium.

Following on from understanding the different metal properties and why they cost what they cost; another decision is to potentially combine different metals to create a fabulous multi-coloured design.
The designs above are a medium rose gold with a satin finish in the middle (created by adding a bit more copper to the alloy) with our exceptional palladium rich white gold on the edges (a battle-ship gray colour, created by adding more palladium to the alloy).
This design can complement a multicoloured watch and is ideal if you like to wear both yellow and white gold (or silver) jewellery.

Simple things like getting the outside profile right can visually make a big difference. Your ring can have a flat outside profile, like this picture, a more traditional 'D' shape, a classic contemporary 'low D', it can have bevelled edges, be concave; there are loads of options.
We have samples of most options for you to look at in our shop.
Similarly the inside profile can make a big difference to how the ring feels on your finger and taking it on and off; a lot of our rings we make with a court; 'rounded' inside profile which means less metal is in contact with your skin.

Once you have established the width, profile, weight and metal for your wedding band you can consider what surface finishes you might want to add that might just make your ring a little more individual to you.
We can do polished or various satin finishes, we can engrave lines, a bit of everything...Anything really; the only limitation is your imagination!
Remember, most surface finishes will wear with time but that does not take away from the value of what you have invested in and are relatively inexpensive to re-do.

Some engagement rings require a shaped wedding band because a straight band won't sit up against them very well.
We have an extensive selection of shaped wedding bands that work with a lot of engagement rings however we do sometimes have to make bespoke shaped wedding rings.
We often use Computer Aided Design to create design options for you so you can see what your bespoke wedding band will look like before we make it.

Diamonds can be set into your wedding band. Other gems stones can also be used but they are not as hard wearing. There are several different setting styles and orientations.
We would show you examples to help you decide the style of setting, the size and quality of stones and how many you might need to create the desired look.
For lady's rings we will always recommend what we think will complement your engagement ring best and Gent's can have diamonds in their wedding bands too!

Demand for less precious metals is increasing as gold prices soar. Ladies tend to have to go for platinum or gold wedding bands to match their engagement rings and this can quite often take up a large proportion of your wedding ring budget.
You could consider going for a less traditional choice of metal. Palladium offers a lot of the qualties that platinum does with the advatage of much lower costs and titanium is very hard wearing and will tend to work out les than £100 for a gents band. Please enquire for more advice on metal choice as its important to make an informed decision.

There are few limitations on design. Whilst we appreicate most of our customers want fairly classic wedding ring designs there are some amazing things we can do. Our workshop in Germany specialises particularly in engineered finishes, we can laser away metal to leave a rasied detail, we can engrave into the metal, we can combine different colours of metal and set stones in creative ways.
The only limitation is your imagination!
